Matching and merging names can be tricky. How do you relate William Smith with Bill Smith? The pdNickname database can be utilized to match names that are dissimilar because one has a given first name while another has a nickname or other variation.

This one-of-a-kind package is particularly suited for matching American and Americanized first names, nicknames, diminutives, pet names and variants as well as ethnic first names and variations common in the United States.

Also included with this name and nickname database product is a sample program showing a technique for comparing first names. It is written in Visual FoxPro, but the concepts are translatable to almost any programming language.

pdNickname – Name & Nickname Database is a proprietary resource not duplicated elsewhere. Note that while a male or female gender identifier is provided for most names, this product is not a comprehensive gender coding database because it does not include names for which there are no nicknames or variations. pdGender is required for complete gender coverage. pdNickname is a very comprehensive name and nickname database and has been successfully tested in the field for many years. The record count is the total number of records contained in each of the three included file formats. The zipped and extracted sizes show the combined total size of all product files.
